KCBS-AM, San Francisco and Jack Swanson Agree to Part Ways. San Francisco news and talk radio programming legend Jack Swanson announces he will exit the news director role at CBS RADIO’s all-news KCBS-AM, effective May 1. In a social media post, Swanson writes, “Gosh I thought I’d have some news to share with all of you this afternoon. But it seems Social Media waits for no man. Or woman. Yes, it’s true. I’m leaving the News Director’s chair at KCBS on May 1. When I came off the beach for this assignment I agreed to stay a few years and my bosses agreed to give me enough rope for me to have fun. Mission accomplished. Both sides got what we expected from the bargain. And we part in a way that is rare in the broadcasting business. Feeling great about each other. I will miss my newly-made friends at CBS terribly. But life is calling.” Swanson programmed crosstown heritage news/talk outlets KGO and KSFO during his many years at the now-Cumulus-owned station group.

Nielsen Seeks Dismissal of Bubba Counterclaim. In a motion filed in District Court in Tampa, Nielsen is asking the court to dismiss the counterclaim filed against it and Cox Media Group by Bubba the Love Sponge Clem, arguing that it’s a “classic shotgun pleading.” Bubba Clem’s counterclaim alleged that Nielsen and Cox Media Group conspired to entrap Bubba into trying to manipulate Nielsen’s PPM panel in the Tampa market with the help of a “double agent” panelist. Nielsen is suing Bubba Clem for $1 million, claiming previous attempts to tamper with the Tampa PPM panel caused it to suffer damages.
