Round Two of Holiday 2020 PPM Ratings Takeaways. TALKERS magazine managing editor Mike Kinosian presents his Ratings Takeaways from the second round of Nielsen Audio’s Holiday 2020 PPM survey that covered the period of December 3 – January 6. Traditionally, the Holiday PPM survey reveals a significant drop off in listening for news/talk and all-news stations due to altered listening habits during the holiday season. This year, due to the post-election chaos, many news/talk stations either didn’t see a dramatic drop in weekly, AQH share or even saw an increase. In Detroit, Cumulus Media’s news/talk WJR-AM dipped just four-tenths to a 4.2 share and the #9 rank. Entercom’s WCCO-AM, Minneapolis added five-tenths to finish with a 5.2 share good for the #5 rank. In San Diego, iHeartMedia’s news/talk KOGO was up two-tenths to wrap the survey with a 5.1 share and climbs from #6 to #4. SiriusXM Reports 2020 Q4 and 2020 Full Year Financial Statements. While SiriusXM reports revenue of $2.19 billion for the fourth quarter of 2020, it also is reporting a loss of $677 million for the quarter, compared to the income of $243 million it reported in the fourth quarter of 2019. The company says the decrease in net income was a result of a $976 million non-cash impairment charge associated with Pandora. SiriusXM CEO Jennifer Witz says, “SiriusXM turned in strong operating and financial results in 2020: we grew SiriusXM self-pay subscribers, revenue, adjusted EBITDA, and free cash flow despite the pandemic. Our new car penetration reached approximately 80% in the fourth quarter and is set to rise above 80% this year, and the incorporation of 360L, our next generation in-car entertainment platform, is accelerating. SiriusXM, Pandora, and Stitcher, together with our investment in SoundCloud, now reach an audience of more than 150 million people. We are bolstering our position as North America’s leading audio entertainment company with new innovative talk shows and podcasts, streaming music channels targeting younger audiences, and extended deals with major media brands, such as NBCUniversal News Group. We signed an exclusive audio agreement with The Masters and secured additional digital sports rights with the NFL and NBA to benefit our streaming products. We are also thrilled Howard Stern extended his agreement to continue live broadcasts of his amazing show.”

BLOCK ISLAND, RI — Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio? This year, no players were voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. There will be a ceremony in July, welcoming last year’s class, after the 2020 induction ceremony was, like much of life, COVID-canceled.
But after 400+ votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America, no nominee met the 75% threshold. Voters are instructed to look-beyond statistics, and weigh nominees’ “integrity, sportsmanship, and character.” This year’s #3 vote-getter Roger Clemens and #2 Barry Bonds are tainted by ties to performance-enhancing drugs.
