PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Meet The Beatles, again.

This time it’s Get Back, a three-part documentary that may shed some new light on the last days of arguably the greatest, most influential band in the history of pop music.

Many of us who were lucky enough to experience the magical connection between radio and the Beatles will enjoy another ride down memory lane. Consider the documentary’s premise: a new peak into the dynamic of the forces that lead to the break-up of the band that created the music that was the soundtrack as you held hands for the first time and traveled the long and winding road. From the great AM radio DJs to FM personalities, the voices that built the excitement of every new song and interviewed “the boys” also became an integral part of that magical radio connection that influenced millions world wide. Sorry, I may have buried the sales lead.

“The envelope please…”

Monday Memo: Start in the Middle

BLOCK ISLAND, RI — If you are among radio’s remaining newscasters, disregard what follows.  Your job is to make the-very-first-line the-very latest.  By telling the story chronologically, you’re risking listeners thinking “I already know that.”

For DJs, talkers, and commercial copy writers, consider instead…

Monday Memo: That First Call

| November 11, 2019

BLOCK ISLAND, RI — I’m encouraged by response to last week’s column, which included commercial copy Do’s-N-Don’ts from experts, and which I have gathered along the consulting road.  ICYMI: https://www.talkers.com/2019/11/04/monday-memo-do-you-copy/

What encourages me most is that so much of the feedback I’ve gotten on that sales-related material was from on-air people who are involved in advertising sales.  As programming cutbacks continue, NOT-being a cog in the revenue machine seems risky.
