costarebeccaposedProfile: ‘The Costa Report’ Host Rebecca Costa.  TALKERS magazine managing editor and West Coast bureau chief Mike Kinosian profiles the host of the weekly talk radio program “The Costa Report” in a piece published today (4/7) in TALKERS magazine.  The life and work of Rebecca Costa is almost as amazing as the information she pulls out of her guests and the news and data she relates during her two-hour weekly broadcast.  A glimpse into Costa’s head shows why she is different than many people who host talk radio programs.  She tells Kinosian that her childhood as the daughter of two scientists meant daily discussions about science and public policy.  “That was how we ate dinner,” matter-of-factly points out Costa, who lived with her family in Laos during the Vietnam War.  “We entertained ourselves with science and policy. Even though I veered out of the engineering field into biology, I believe physics is easy because there are rules that govern the physical universe.  Once you learn the rules, everything works that way.  What we know about biology though is very limited.  It is much more complex than physics will ever be; I like things that are difficult and multi-faceted.”  Costa’s show formula involves a deep discussion with a guest – a sort of Charlie Rose-type approach.  “Hour one of ‘The Costa Report’ has an in-depth interview, while the second hour features a commentary, roundtable, and technology/legal update.  I use the same formula every single time because repetition equals perfection.  You cannot perfect anything unless you have repeatability.  That is a primary tenet in science, but apparently, people in radio do not know about it.  Even with the best show in the world and if you [integrate] systems where you can increase quality, it still does not matter if you cannot make money.”  Read more of Mike Kinosian’s profile of Rebecca Costa here.

curtiskubyBestDayEverCumulus Partners with Chevy for Food Giveaway.  Dubbed #BestDayEver, Chevy partnered with Cumulus Media to promote a series of free food giveaways in markets across the country on April 1.  Numerous food trucks in markets including New York, Chicago, Nashville, Kansas City, and Minneapolis provided free food to the first to line up for the meal.  Pictured here are WABC, New York midday duo Curtis Sliwa (left) and Ron Kuby (right) enjoying a slice of pizza from NY Pizza in Midtown Manhattan while promoting the Chevy #BestDayEver event on their show.  Cumulus says that the surprises continued for local firemen and policemen in all five markets, when the food trucks pull into their stations with surprise food drops.  Delighted breakfast and lunch-goers were encouraged to share their thanks using #BestDayEver, which generated almost 874,000 social impressions by Cumulus fans alone.  Radio fueled the promotion with on-air live mentions and social pushes letting fans know when and where surprise food trucks were going to pop up.  Onsite video crews captured the action in real time and sent edited content to Chevy’s LIVE YouTube video stream.  Chevy’s channel generated 3 million viewers during an eight-hour live stream on Chevrolet’s YouTube channel and received 600 comments a minute.
