LOS ANGELES — If a host’s classiness, intensity, unwavering determination, expertise, will-to-win and downright decency could be factored into a weekend program’s ratings, Bob Kingsley’s four-hour, “Country Top 40” would have easily reflected its title with 40-shares.
Even without such unrealistic weighting, the Southern California native and CMA’s multiple-time “National Broadcast Personality of the Year” consistently posted some of country radio’s most bloated weekend numbers.
In an environment where personal relationships rule, the affable Kingsley flourished with Texas-sized grace.
WBAP, Dallas to Donate JFK Assassination Recordings to Sixth Floor Museum. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963 was chronicled locally by WBAP, Dallas. Now, the Cumulus Media news/talk station announces it is going to donate 21 original recordings of the events and coverage on WBAP leading up to, including and following the assassination to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. WBAP says these original “day-of” recordings are key materials documenting how this historic news event was reported to local audiences in 1963. Museum executive director Nicola Longford says, “The Museum is committed to preserving not only artifacts and documentation about the assassination itself, but also about the cultural legacy of that pivotal event in history. We are especially excited for this generous donation because it shows the vivid local perspective of this tragic day.” The donation project was spearheaded by WBAP operations manager Tyler Cox, who says the recordings will be officially transferred to the Museum on Monday, November 21 at 10:30 am. “The preservation of these original recordings has long been a goal of ours at WBAP. The Sixth Floor Museum is the logical place for this audio glimpse of life in Dallas/Fort Worth on this fateful day to be preserved, and we’re pleased to make this donation to the Museum.”
