‘Free Talk Live’ Celebrates 10 Years in Syndication. The one-time Florida-based, libertarian-themed talk show hosted by Ian Freeman and Mark Edge celebrates 10 years in national syndication. Writing from the show’s home base in New Hampshire, Freeman gives a shout out to Genesis Communications Network and owner Ted Anderson, saying, “‘Free Talk Live’ quickly became the most-carried show on their multiple networks, gaining more radio affiliates than their longtime, most-carried program, Alex Jones. In that time, GCN has grown and become a respected industry player. They are one of the few independent networks still standing and are now home to Dr. Joy Browne, Mancow, Doug Stephan, Dr. Daliah, and more.” Freeman says the show – which began in the Tampa market in 2002 and went national in 2004 – now has more than 160 affiliate stations. “‘Free Talk Live’ has always been a small business operation. I handled affiliate relations alone for almost the whole first decade and my co-host Mark Edge handled sales. We’ve since expanded to add a salesman and another affiliate relations guy, who are both on-air as co-hosts on different days of the week. Finally, I’m grateful for our listeners and advertisers. We continue to broadcast the show live seven-days-per week on-air and online. The show has zero debt and is growing in affiliations. Thank you again for your help making this possible.”
Technical: An Introduction to Dynamics. Nationally syndicated “Freedom Feens” host Michael W. Dean offers a primer on dynamics as it relates to setting up a home or remote studio for a talk show. If, like Dean, you operate from a remote location and you don’t have the luxury of a broadcast engineer on your staff, getting the best sound possible for your talk show takes a little bit of know-how. Dean writes that the use of an outboard device to make sure the “quiet parts aren’t too quiet, and the loud parts aren’t too loud,” is necessary but certainly not cost-prohibitive. Getting the right setting on the right piece of hardware is also important and Dean walks you through the steps. Check out his tutorial here.

Good Citizens. The dynamic husband/wife talk radio team of Brent & Meg (Brent Seltzer and Meg McDonald) took time from their busy schedule to exercise their duties as good citizens and vote in the most unlikely of places – an automobile showroom! It turns out the polling place for their Studio City, California district was the Century West BMW dealership in Universal City. The couple’s midday show syndicated by GCN has just been cleared by WPGG, Atlantic City to air live weekdays from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET which is particularly exciting to Brent Seltzer who grew up in the shadow of that station’s tower. The seasoned veteran tells TALKERS, “There is something very special about being on the radio in the town where you grew up. Meg and I are thrilled to be on such a great station and have the opportunity to be part of PD Chris Coleman’s wonderful team.” Brent & Meg are pictured beaming by a Beamer with their ballots.
