WURD, Philly Hosting Billy Preston Screening Event for Black History Month

Philadelphia urban talk outlet WURD Radio announces it is hosting its signature Black History Month event on Monday (2/23) with an exclusive screening of the documentary film, Billy Preston: That’s The Way God Planned It. Th event takes place at the Barnes Foundation and will include a live panel discussion with the film’s director and special guests. WURD says, “With Jeffrey Lurie, owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, serving as an executive producer, and Paris Barclay directing, theimg documentary explores the extraordinary life and career of Billy Preston, one of the most influential yet often overlooked musicians in modern music history. Barclay is widely known for his prolific, award-winning work directing major television series, including ‘NYPD Blue,’ ‘The West Wing,’ ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ and ‘ER,’ bringing both historical insight and emotional depth to Preston’s story.” WURD president and CEO Sara M. Lomax says, “Many people know Billy Preston’s music without knowing Billy Preston’s story. Gow Communications’ KFNC, Houston Hacked; Racist Content Broadcast

Gow Communications’ sports talk KFNC-FM, Houston “ESPN 97.5” was hacked on Sunday afternoon while the station was airing the Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys game andimg racist messages were broadcast for a period of time. Station officials posted the following message to X at around 4:30 pm: “In the past hour, there was audio airing on 97.5 FM signal that didn’t come from the radio station.  Our signal had been hacked.  We are actively trying to rectify the problem. We appreciate the many of you who posted to alert us of the issue.” The station able to return the game broadcast to the air.

UK radio and outdoor firm Global inks an exclusive platform distribution and ad sales deal with iHeartMedia in which Global and iHeartMedia will license, distribute and represent each other’s podcast portfolios.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Audacy announce a multi-year extension to their 30-year partnership through the 2028 NFL season. As part of the new agreement, “SportsRadio 94WIP” will continue to serve as the team’s official flagship radio partner. The broadcast team is led by Eagles Hall of Famers Merrill Reese and Mike Quick in the radio booth and longtime 94WIP personality Howard Eskin on the sideline.

iHeartMedia chairman and CEO Bob Pittman & president COO/CFO Rich Bressler will participate in a question and answer session during the Wells Fargo TMT Summit on November 29 at 3:45 pm ET. A live webcast of the session will be available to the general public at the start of the session through a link on the Investors homepage of iHeartMedia’s website.
