Derrick Cole Named SVP of Programming for iHM Wilmington.  Promoted from iHeartMedia’s Lancaster, Pennsylvania station group to the SVP of programming role for its Wilmington, Delaware cluster iscolederrick Derrick “DC” Cole.  He will oversee programming at country WDSD, Dover; adult hits WRDX, Smyrna “92.9 TOM-FM”; news/talk WILM, Wilmington; news/talk WDOV, Dover; and sports talk WWTX “Fox Sports 1290.”  Cole will continue to program CHR WLAN, Lancaster and Spanish WLAN-AM “Rumba 1390.”  iHeartMedia SVP of programming for the Allentown-Harrisburg region, Jeff Hurley, states, “Derrick’s one of our best up-and-coming programmers.  We’ve seen record-setting numbers since he began programming WLAN four years ago.  We’re excited for this opportunity to expand his role within our region.”

The Trump Phenomenon and Sports Talk Radio.  A piece by The Ringer editor-at-large Bryan Curtis examines the similarities between President-Elect Donald Trump’s campaign rhetoric and the tactics used by sports talk radio hosts.  Curtis suggests that Trump is like a sports talk host for three reasons: First, he reduces “complex issues to simple sound bites”; second, he’s an elite who “remembers to talk like a plebe”; and third, he overwhelms “the audience with opinions.”  In this piece, Curtis compares Trump to Colin Cowherd and others.  Read it all here.

ppmunitNielsen Audio Releases Round Two of November 2016 PPM Data.  The second of four rounds of November 2016 PPM ratings data from Nielsen Audio has been released for 12 markets including: Washington, Boston, Detroit, Miami, Seattle, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa, Denver, Baltimore, and St. Louis.  The November 2016 survey period covered October 6 to November 2.  You can find the complete 6+ ratings numbers from subscribing stations here.  Additionally, TALKERS/RadioInfo managing editor Mike Kinosian provides his “Twelve Takeaways” from this group on the main page of our sister publication here.

Odds & Sods.  Nationally syndicated sports talk personality Jim Rome has his Irvine, California home on theromejim market.  The Los Angeles Times reports that the nine-year-old Spanish-style mansion is listed for $13.995 million.  Rome’s radio program is syndicated by CBS Sports Radio Network…..The GCN-syndicated Dr. Daliah Wachs show adds new affiliate KZWY-FM, Sheridan, Wyoming.

Hurley in the Morning Charity Makes Educational Exhibit Possible.  WPGG, Atlantic City morning personality Harry Hurley’s charitable organization – the Harry Hurley in the Morning Charity – recently donated $5,000 to the Atlantic City Aquarium in Historic Gardner’s Basin.  The funds helped 5th grade gifted and talented students at the Dr. Joyanne D. Miller School in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey create the new Mysteries of the Ocean educational exhibit.  The exhibit was conceived and designed by teacher Kelly Hunt’s students.  The adults pictured here with the class are (from l-r): Hurley, Atlantic City Historical Waterfront Foundation president Chris Seher, Hunt, Atlantic City Mayor Donald A. Guardian, and Lisa Schall, assistant executive director/CFO and interim director of operations at the Atlantic City Aquarium.
