pinskydrewLoveline Ending Its Run. During his weekly appearance on KROQ, Los Angeles’ Kevin & Bean morning drive program, Dr. Drew Pinsky (“Dr. Drew”) announced today (Thursday 4/21) that after more than 30 years, “Loveline” – the sex and relationship advice program he hosts – will be ending next Thursday (4/28). Adam Carolla, who co-hosted the program with Pinsky for 11 years, will return on that day to be the co-host the final night.  The news comes shortly after Dr. Drew’s current co-host, Mike Catherwood, revealed he would be departing the show.  It was believed a replacement for Catherwood would be found and the show would continue, however, Pinsky admitted that he had been hosting “Loveline” for free for at least “a couple of years.”  Nonetheless, Dr. Drew remarks, “The ‘Loveline’ brand is still strong.  Perhaps we will bring it back some day, but for now, this version is ending and I will be focusing on all of my other projects.”  Dr. Drew’s first appearance on the program was in 1984 as part of a Sunday night segment called “Ask a Surgeon.”  After Carolla joined as co-host in 1995, “Loveline” became a nightly syndicated program.

cookehollandNAB Show Day 3.  Radio consultant Holland Cooke reports for TALKERS magazine from Las Vegas and the huge 2016 NAB Show.  In today’s column, Cooke reviews the Q&A with FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler.  Often accused of being less sensitive to radio’s needs and more concerned with regulating the Internet, Wheeler told the NAB Show attendees that he’s a big fan of radio (NPR is his first choice).  He says when asked by interviewer (former NAB TV Board Chair) Marci Burdick about the state of AM/FM in these changing technological times, “The question is whether those managing technology will change with it.”   But he says the FCC has worked quickly to process FM translator applications.  “Since we opened the window, we have processed over 500 ‘new stations.’”  Read the entire report here.
