nielsen logoRound Three of February PPM Data Released.  The third of four rounds of February 2016 PPM data from Nielsen Audio has been released for 12 markets including: Portland, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Sacramento, San Antonio, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Orlando, and Columbus.  The survey period was January 28 – February 24.  TALKERS magazine’s sister publication RadioInfo has all of the 6+ numbers from subscribing stations here.  In addition, managing editor Mike Kinosian presents his “Twelve Takeaways” from this batch of ratings on the main page at RadioInfo.com here.

altitude sportsReport: KRWZ, Denver to Become New Market Sports Talker.  According to a story by Colin Daniels at BSNDenver.com, Kroenke Sports Enterprise’s regional sports cable and satellite TV operator Altitude Sports and Entertainment will program the station recently purchased by KSE subsidiary Kroenke Sports Ventures from EntercomStan Kroenke’s firm also owns Denver’s Pepsi Center, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and the NBA’s Denver Nuggets. Daniels writes the station will be branded “Altitude Sports” and that the lineup will be: James Merilatt serving as program director; Tom Helmer in the morning drive daypart with a co-host to be named later; Vic Lombardi and Kyle Keefe hosting middays; and former KJAC “105.5 ESPN” duo Nate Kreckman and Tom Nalen in the afternoon drive slot.  Read Daniels’ story here.

The Presidential Race, Obama Names SCOTUS Pick, Battle Against Islamic State, U.S. Sanctions North Korea, and Sea World to End Orca Captivity Among Top News/Talk Stories Yesterday (3/16).  The activities of the candidates for president, Marco Rubio’s campaign suspension, and the cancellation of Monday’s GOP debate; President Obama nominates Judge Merrick Garland for Supreme Court; U.S. strikes on Islamic State leadership; the sanctions levied upon North Korea by President Obama for its recent nuclear tests; and Sea World announces it will end its captive breeding of orcas were some of the most-talked-about stories on news/talk radio yesterday, according to ongoing research from TALKERS magazine.

Odds & Sods.  Broadcasting pro Kris Abrams is joining Futuri Media as director/partner integration.  In thisabramskris role, Abrams will work directly with client stations on implementing Futuri’s platforms at local stations domestically and internationally.  The company says he’ll manage Futuri system installations and the development of strategies with stations to engage and maximize their audiences.  Abrams was most recently operations manager for Cumulus Media’s Albuquerque cluster…..Investigative news pro Kate Howard joins Louisville Public Radio to work for WFPL, Louisville’s Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting (KyCIR).  She comes to the organization after serving five years with The Tennessean…..KMJ, Fresno talk show host Ray Appleton was recently honored as the Boy Scouts Sequoia Council Citizen of the Year.  The event at a local restaurant drew more than 100 local dignitaries, friends and family members.  Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin, Ray’s son Rory Appleton and his former boss (and current fellow KMJ talk host) John Broeske were among the speakers telling of fond and funny memories with Ray.

podcastone bPodcastOne Introduces New Programs.  First, comedian Jo Koy jumps into the podcast business with a weekly show titled “The Koy Pond.”  On the show, Koy will welcome friends and fellow comedians to share their hilarious insights on a wide variety of topics, from celebrities and sports, to food and more.  Regular will include Vine Superstar King Bach, comedian Anjelah Johnson, and The Black Eyed Peas.  Second, the Chase Chrisley podcast launches featuring the cast member of USA Network’s “Chrisley Knows Best.”  Chase is the son of Todd Chrisley, patriarch of the family that stars in the reality TV show.  Finally, PodcastOne’s partnership with Barstool Sports produces a new show hosted by Caleb Pressley – the former UNC football player and “American Idol” Season 2 contestant.
