robbinsndmarkleyRobbins and Markley Named Late Morning Hosts at KXL, Portland.  The duo filled in for Jim Villanucci while he was on vacation back in March and it must have gone well because Scott Robbins and Jamie Markley are taking over the 9:00 am to 12:00 noon PT left vacant when Villanucci suddenly left Alpha Media’s news/talk KXL, Portland last month.  They are based at Alpha Media’s Peoria news/talker WMBD where they are the 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm CT hosts.  They will continue to work both stations doing live and local shows – that means a seven-hour broadcast day.  Alpha Media EVP of programming Scott Mahalick comments, “We’re very privileged and blessed to work with legendary talk talents such as Scott Robbins and Jamie Markley that can bring the live and local professionalism and energy to the Pacific Northwest.”

nrglogoNRG Media Deals Seven Stations to Riverfront Broadcasting.  Calling the new owners a “perfect match” for the Northwestern Iowa stations, NRG Media CEO Mary Quass announces the company is selling seven properties to Yankton, South Dakota-based Riverfront Broadcasting LLC.  They are: adult contemporary KLGA-FM and country KLGZ-AM and translator K253BJ Algona; news/talk KWBG-AM in Boone; adult contemporary KHBT-FM in Humboldt; and oldies KQWC-AM and AC KQWC-FM in Webster City, Iowa.  Quass comments, “It has been great working with the radio teams in all four markets.  They have been an integral part of our company for years and a significant contributor to our company’s growth.  At the same time, I am equally excited for the stations.  Riverfront Broadcasting shares the same culture and I am confident they have a robust broadcasting future ahead.”

ramseylincolncenterDave Ramsey Wows ‘em at Lincoln Center.  Yesterday (10/2), nationally syndicated radio star Dave Ramsey packed ‘em in at Lincoln Center in New York City as he hosted nearly a thousand business leaders for the one-time event, “Business Gets Personal.”  Ramsey was joined by “marketing gurus” Seth Godin and Gary Vaynerchuk.  During the presentation, the three offered valuable insights on how to grow and lead a successful business.  In the photo here, you see Ramsey, Godin and Vaynerchuk on stage at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Time Warner Center.

piscopojoe‘AM 970 The Answer’ Morning Host Joe Piscopo Profiled in HuffPost.  Comic, actor and now morning drive talk personality Joe Piscopo is profiled by Brian DAmbrosio in the HuffingtonPost.  The piece chronicles Piscopo’s career  from before his time on “Saturday Night Live” through to his current gig hosting the wake-up show on Salem Communications’ news/talk WNYM, New York, “AM 970 The Answer.”  In addition, it touches on Piscopo’s political philosophy, though Piscopo is quick to say he’s not an expert on politics, and the piece relates that he is a long-time Democrat who’s disillusioned with the party.  See the whole piece here.

hunterkarenKaren Hunter to Host SiriusXM Show.  Journalist, author, college professor and talk media personality Karen Hunter begins hosting her eponymous daily talk show on SiriusXM’s Urban View channel on Monday (10/6).   SiriusXM president and chief content officer Scott Greenstein states, “This summer when Karen hosted a series of shows with us, we were impressed with her smart, lively approach to a wide range of issues and saw a passionate response from listeners and on social media.  On Karen’s new daily show, her boldly curated range of guests across the worlds of sports, entertainment, and pop culture, as well as entrepreneurs from varied fields, will bring inspiration and insights to our Urban View listeners.”  Guests for the first week of shows – airing at 4:00 pm ET – include: financial expert Carmen Rita Wong; Fashion Queens’ Bevy Smith; producer Holly Carter; political strategist and investment banker Boris Epstheyn; and television personality La La Anthony.

ppmunitRound Four of September PPM Data Released.  The fourth of four rounds of September 2014 PPM data from Nielsen Audio has been released for 12 markets including: Portland, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Sacramento, San Antonio, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Orlando, and Columbus.  The survey period was August 14 through September 10.  TALKERS magazine’s sister publication RadioInfo has all of the numbers from subscribing stations here.  In addition, managing editor Mike Kinosian presents his “Ten Takeaways” from this batch of ratings on the main page at RadioInfo.com here.

Odds & Sods.  Ad sales for Sports USA’s NCAA college football play-by-play broadcasts will be handled by AdLarge Media as the two companies agree to a deal extension through the 2015 season…..Dave Wills re-signs with the Tampa Bay Rays on a three-year deal to serve as play-by-play man for the MLB club’s radio broadcasts heard on WDAE, Tampa.

U.S. ISIS Policy and Obama ‘60 Minutes’ Interview Top Stories for Week of September 29 – October 3.  The military efforts to thwart ISIS and President Obama’s “60 Minutes” interview tied atop the Talkers TenTM this week.  At #2 was the U.S. Ebola case and the fears of a pandemic.  Following at #3 was the Secret Service controversy and at #4 was the mid-term elections tied with the 2016 presidential race prospects.  The Talkers TenTM is a weekly chart of the top stories and people discussed on news/talk radio during the week and is the result of ongoing research from TALKERS magazine.  It is published every Friday at Talkers.com.  View this week’s entire chart here.
