lesourdmaureenMaureen Lesourd to Head Up Lincoln Financial Media Miami.  From her most recent post as chief revenue officer at LDR Interactive, Maureen Lesourd moves to Miami to take on the SVP and general manager position at Lincoln Financial Media’s cluster that includes AC WLYF, classic hits WMXJ and sports talk WAXY.  She takes over for Jeff Dinetz who left the company this month and she’ll begin her duties in April.  LFM president and CEO Don Benson says, “I am very excited – both for our Miami staff and for our company overall – to have Maureen on board.  She has led many big, successful radio stations during her multi-media career and will bring spirit and vision to our operations in Miami.”  Lesourd says of her new position, “The chance to join Don and the team at Lincoln Financial is a real honor.  My career has afforded me the opportunity to work in all aspects of the broadcasting industry, from radio, syndication, and network TV to new technology.  I hope to apply this experience with the Miami crew to help the cluster grow in a positive and productive way for the staff, the listeners, and our advertisers.”

journalbroadcastgroupJournal Broadcast Group Names Alvin Pritchard VP of Finance.  In his new role, Alvin Pritchard will join Journal Broadcast Group as its new vice president of finance overseeing the company’s owned-and-operated television and radio stations in 14 markets, in addition to serving as a key strategic partner to the broadcast leadership team.  He will be responsible for financial planning, forecasting, budgeting and analysis, and will play a key role in setting and achieving Journal Broadcast Group’s strategic and operational direction.  Prior to joining Journal, Pritchard served with NBC Universal as vice president of finance for the Chicago TV duopoly of WMAQ-TV (NBC) and WSNS-TV (Telemundo Chicago), for the past nine years.

kptq logoClassic Country KPTQ, Spokane Flips to Sports Talk.  Using Fox Sports Radio Network, Clear Channel’s classic country KPTQ will flip to sports talk and air the network’s full slate of programming.  The station re-brands as “1280 Fox Sports Spokane,” the programming schedule includes Dan Patrick, Jay Mohr, “Fox Sports Primetime” with Pat O’Brien and Steve Hartman, “Fox Sports Tonight” and JT The Brick, plus weekend programming.  Cluster OM Michael La Crosse says, “We couldn’t be more excited to bring the power of the Fox Sports brand to the Spokane market.  It’s the perfect addition to our station cluster.”

zollermarthaOdds & Sods.  WGAU, Athens, Georgia-based talk host Martha Zoller is planning to make an announcement about her political future.  Remember that the conservative media personality ran for the newly created Congressional seat in North Georgia but lost in a run-off in the Republican primary last fall.  Now, with a successful state-wide morning drive programfreemanedge will she jump back into the political arena?  We’ll know on April 3…..Midwest Communications’ WKZO, Kalamazoo, Michigan adds “Free Talk Live” with Ian Freeman and Mark Edge for evenings, replacing “The Daily Wrap.”  WKZO has been airing FTL on weekends and now makes it a seven-night-per-week deal…..Wayne Allyn Root guest hosts the Mike Church show on SiriusXM’s Patriot channel on Friday, March 29.  Root is a former Libertarian presidential candidate and vice presidential nominee.  He’s a frequent Fox News Channel guest and authored the new book, The Ultimate Obama Survival Guide…..WNYM, New York “AM 970 The Answer” personality Curtis Sliwa turns 59 today.  Happy Birthday!

allianceforwomeninmediaThe Alliance for Women in Media Hosts Event at NAB in Las Vegas.  The Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) is presenting “The Women’s Room” at the NAB Show in Las Vegas on April 8, 2013.  The event is limited to 200 registrants who will be served a healthy breakfast, have a professional headshot taken, receive feedback on their social media profile, and make high-impact connections with fellow women in media.  The event host committee includes Caroline Beasley, EVP and CFO, Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc.; Michelle Duke, vice president, NAB Education Foundation; Sarah Foss, media consultant; Kay Olin, president, Local Focus Radio; and Christine Travaglini, president, Christal Radio (Katz Radio Group).  AWM president Erin Fuller says, “The Alliance for Women in Media is excited to create a fun, dynamic, and professional community within the NAB Show – and we are thrilled by the high-impact women who have already stepped forward to support this new event.  We are glad to be working with our long-term partners, NAB and NAB Education Foundation who have been such fantastic partners in launching ‘The Women’s Room.’”

bodinewaltKansas City Radio and TV Icon Walt Bodine Dies at 92.  The Kansas City Star has a nice bio of Kansas City newsman and talk show host Walt Bodine, who passed away on March 24 at 92.  His career spanned more than 50 years. During that time he worked in radio at KVAK in Atchinson, Kansas and in Kansas City at KCKN, WDAF, WHB, KMBZ and, during the past phase of his career, at public station KCUR.  He also hosted numerous TV shows during his lengthy career.  See his KC Star obit herePhoto: KCUR radio.

mefferdDCSalem Radio Network’s Janet Mefferd Takes it to the Streets.  Making her stance on gay marriage known as the Supreme Court hears arguments in two challenges to anti-gay marriage legislation this week, SRN’s Janet Mefferd joins the “March for Marriage” demonstrators on the street before broadcasting her nationally syndicated program from SRN’s Washington news bureau.

Gay Marriage SCOTUS Hearings, Georgia Baby Slaying, Cyprus Bank Seizures, Jim Carrey Anti-Gun Song, and Beyonce Single Flap Among Top News/Talk Stories Yesterday (3/25).  The Supreme Court’s hearing of arguments in two cases addressing gay marriage; the slaying of a baby during a robbery in Brunswick, Georgia; the seizure of assets from banks in Cyprus; the anti-gun song created by actor Jim Carrey; and the flap over the risqué new single from Beyonce were some of the most-talked-about stories on news/talk radio yesterday.
